About Humanities & Religious Studies

Academic Programs

The Department of Humanities and Religious Studies offers an integrated approach to the study of world cultures across history. In our courses, students undertake an interdisciplinary study of core ideas, ideals, and values.

Religious Studies focuses on the beliefs and practices of the world’s religions and their relationship to history and culture.

The study of the Humanities can be a profoundly personal experience, yet students acquire the concrete analytical, research, writing, and organizational skills essential to their professional careers.

We Are Committed to Diversity

We live and work on the tribal and cultural lands and adjacent waterways of Sacramento’s Indigenous People and acknowledge the Nisenan, the Southern Maidu, the Valley and Plains Miwok/Me-Wuk, and the Patwin Wintun peoples as the original and continuous stewards of these places.

We respect the diversity of this department, of the College, of the University, and of the wider community and seek the formation of a truly inclusive and anti-racist environment. As a result, we commit to reflection both as individuals and as a department regarding our classroom spaces, our teaching practices, our curriculum, and our communication with these communities.
